This unusual painting by Maureen of her home country of Mount Allan, (the Yuelamu Community) invokes the far horizons, with the shimmering rays of light, as it changes throughout the day.
It also utilises the traditional colours used in the 'olden days', the red and yellow ochres, the white pipe clay, and the charcoal black of the campfires.
Now living in Adelaide, Maureen grew up in the Mount Allan Community, 300 ks north-west of Alice Springs, and returns regularly for ceremonial and family business.
The coutryside of this region is mostly mulga scrub land, dotted with 'islands' of rocky outcrops. It is among these outcrops that the sun plays its visual tunes of light and shade, as captured in Maureen's painting.
