This was one of the last paintings by Johnny Warrungula Tjuppurrula, whose painting career resurfaced
after one of his 1971 paintings brought a world record price (twice) for an Aboriginal artwork at two Sotherby's auctions in recent years.
This work depicts the country and stories handed down from his father, based around Tjikarri, Yipa and the Ehrenberg Ranges in Central Australia. This is a region rich in water Dreaming stories, and the bush foods depicted in this work in particular are wild raisins. This small berry is eaten fresh, or can be dried for later consumption.
The circles represent groups of women gathering the wild raisins in the landscape.
